Lembit OpikLembit Opik of Montgomeryshire Energy Advice Centre says: "As the local MP, I’ve got an ecological ambition to make Montgomeryshire the environmental capital of Britain. It’s quite achievable. Recycling, energy usage reduction, micro generation and smart meters are all part of the mix. If we’re serious about it, we can really make this happen. All it takes is a bit of creativity and the political and personal will. We’re also blessed with the Centre for Alternative Technology in our area. They’re a Mecca for information and motivation on these matters. Doing this doesn’t mean the whole country will be covered in wind turbines. It just means we make good decisions together and intelligently. I’m up for it. I hope you are too. If so, get in touch and we can take it from there."

Mick BatesMick Bates of Montgomeryshire Energy Advice Centre says: "As a practical person saving money rather than wasting it seems a good thing. I hear most people agreeing with that. Most politicians agree that climate change is caused by CO2 in the atmosphere and that means reducing our use of energy, as electricity generation accounts for a third of Welsh carbon emissions. Nothing really new in that but it is a win win situation - help stop climate change and save money at the same time. This will provide benefits across the board by reducing household bills as well as improving profitability for businesses.

In Wales funding is available to install microgeneration technologies in our homes under the UK Government Low Carbon Buildings Programme. The Carbon Trust helps businesses to reduce their carbon emissions and offers an interest free loan to install or upgrade renewable energy technologies. The Energy Savings Trust is a non-profit organisation that offers excellent free and impartial advice to households and businesses on how to reduce carbon emissions through sustainable and efficient use of energy."
