Energy saving light bulbs

Switch to energy saving light bulbs. They last around 10 times longer than ordinary light bulbs, and each bulb you fit could save up to £60 on electricity over the bulb's lifetime.
Below is an example:

Cavity wall insulation

Around a third of all the heat lost in an un-insulated home is lost through the walls. Cavity wall insulation is a fantastic way to significantly reduce the amount of energy you need to heat your home and could save you around £90 a year on your fuel bills.

Loft insulation

Without loft insulation you could be losing as much as 15% of your heating costs through your roof. Insulating your loft is a simple and effective way to reduce your heating bills and you can even do it yourself.

Draught proofing

Is a simple way of stopping warm air escaping your home It simply fills gaps and decreases the amount of cold air entering your home. There are several types of materials available such as brushes and foams.

Tanks and pipe insulation

Both tank and pipe insulation keeps your water hotter for longer by reducing the amount of heat that escapes. It is very much the same principle as cavity wall and loft insulation. Insulating pipes will reduce the amount of heat that is loss, keeping your water hotter for longer and saving you money.

Double glazing

Double glazing cuts heat lost through windows by half and can save £80 - £100 a year on your heating bills. Double glazing works by trapping air between two panes of glass creating an insulating barrier that reduces heat loss, noise and condensation.

Remember, there are grants available for help with a lot of these projects which you can do in your home. For more information call the Montgomery Energy Advice Centre on 01686 625 527.
